Student Online Learner Self-Assessment

  1. Do you have access to a computer and internet?
  2. Will you be able to use the computer several times a week if necessary?
  3. Do you have a functioning webcam and microphone?
  4. Do you have access to Microsoft Office 365?
  5. Do you have one of the following browers on your computer?  (Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, or Firefox)
  6. Do you have a backup plan in case your internet or power goes out? ( such as using a cellphone as a hotspot or driving to a location that has internet)
  7. Do you have basic computer skills?
  8. Can you communicate effectively online with your instructor(s) and/or peers?
  9. Are you willing to reach out to your instructor(s) if you need help?
  10. Do you consider yourself motivated, and self-directed?
  11. After you set your goals and deadlines, are you good at following trhough with them?
  12. Will you be able to dedicate 8-10 hours per week or more for  your online?
  13. Can you ignore distractions both online and at home while doing your work?

What you need

  • PC with Windows 10 or higher
  • Intel Core i5 or higher
  • 250 GB Hard Drive
  • 8 GB RAM
  • The latest version of Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, or Firefox 
  • High-speed internet connection
  • Webcam
  • Speakers (either internal or external) or headphones
  • Word processing software (e.g., Microsoft Word)
  • The ability to download and install free software applications and plug-ins (note: you must have administrator access to install applications and plug-ins)

Tips for Being a Successful Online Learner 

The faculty, staff, and administration of Sitting Bull College strive to provide a positive, enriching academic environment for each student. 

It is the student’s responsibility to: 
  • Read the course syllabus and any other documents related to the course and be aware of any and all instructor policies. 
  • Meet course schedules and deadlines.
  • Submit all learning activities through MySBC. 
  • Ask questions.  If you don’t understand the instructions, assignments or learning materials, it is your responsibility to ask for help.
